Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior representative said the incident made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
