The Video Platform Grants Viewers Power to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Personal Streams

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that permits them to cut down on the amount of AI-created media appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the platform disclosed that it now features over 1 billion AI videos.

Testing and Rollout

The update is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a global rollout. This development aligns with a surge in content created by AI, fueled by emerging content generation software.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that almost 10% of the fastest-growing content creators on another major platform only show clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is deemed “AI slop”, a phrase for poor-quality, mass-produced content that is frequently illogical or surreal.

Based on user feedback that many people enjoy content made with AI tools, including computer-generated images to educational videos, and we intend to provide users the option to adjust the amount of that, based on their own preferences,” commented a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

The platform shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its service labeled as made with AI. Overall, in excess of 100 m pieces of content are uploaded to the app each day, making AI content a minor percentage of its complete catalog.

How to Adjust Settings

Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the amount of artificial media they view by opening the topic control setting in the app and choosing the AI content topic. Other topics that are already be adjusted under the filter cover current affairs, style, aesthetics, and movement.

Content Labeling and Policies

Its rules oblige users to identify lifelike artificially created content, and it bans dangerous fake videos of public figures or emergencies. Any believable artificial content that is without a tag can be removed under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the platform will from now on attach an artificially created label to content made using its built-in AI features, or detected by an cross-platform project for recognizing AI-generated material. This action is aimed to help prevent users from attempting to circumvent the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also establishing a $2m educational fund for experts and organizations to develop learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will support non-profit groups dedicated to educating programming and robotics.

Content Safety Approach

The platform has justified its safety measures, following discussion over plans to lay off numerous safety staff in Britain. It is set to cut a significant number of roles in its trust and safety department in the UK capital, with trade unions and internet security professionals raising concerns that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that people-led review would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by eliminating the most harmful content before it has to be seen by staff. The platform reported a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by safety staff over the last 12 months due to the use of its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to harmful content as rapidly, which is the area in which a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
